Anna Akhmatova Monument

The monument is placed opposite the legendary Kresty prison, where the repressed husband and son of Anna Akhmatova were imprisoned in the 1930s, and at the walls of which the poetess spent many hours in line hoping to pass food and try to see her family.

St. Petersburg is one of the first cities where a monument to the victims of political repression was installed. The monument was opened in April 1995. The author of the monument is Mikhail Shemyakin.
