Hug, listen, see
and feel my Salzburg
This project where the artist explores the city creating 3D scanning maps and reconstructs the own feelings of the city.

Ekaterina offers the other type of communication with memory and emotions she got, using visual, audials perception and also feeling of touch and hug.
How transfer feeling by 100%?
This city does not fit into a phone camera, it can only be viewed in parts from different sides or from above, like a magic box.

With the help of photogrammetry, models of key landmarks were made, where one can see how deceptively vision and how consciousness complete the world.
Franciscan Church
One of the oldest church in Salzburg, you can only always see some parts from little streets around.

Residenplatz
The Residenplatz was laid out from 1587 onwards at the behest of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau, after he ordered the abandonment of the cemetery of the former monastery that previously lay to the north of Salzburg Cathedral. Remnants of the medieval cemetery were recently discovered underneath the square's surface. Raitenau also had a large number of private houses demolished to provide space. Then called Hauptplatz (Main Square), the new public plaza coincided with the reconstruction of Salzburg Cathedral, according to plans laid out by the Italian architect Vincenzo Scamozzi.
Pferdeschwemme

This is a horse bathing pond with a marble sculpture of a tamer in the very center. The reservoir was created in 1693 by Fischer von Erlach, and Michael Bernard Mandl worked on the sculpture.
Cucombers (2011) год в Furtwänglerpark.
This work of art can be traced back to an initiative of the Salzburg Foundation. This was founded in 2001 as a private initiative and sees itself as a modern form of patronage. This project, which does not receive any public subsidies, aims to inspire international artists for the city of Salzburg and to encourage them to create a specific work of art for a location of their choice.
In the heart of Salzburg Old Town, the Toy Museum (Spielzeug Museum provides the respite traveling parents have been longing for. Crammed full of retro and modern toys, with films, trains, dolls’ houses, dressing up, racing cars, and more, it will keep little ones happy for hours, while parents and carers unwind with a cup of tea.
Erhardkirche
you can observe how much information we usually miss using only one point
This scan was made from 2 points. One is the ground and one the top of the mountain.

How you can hug a city?
New place is always giving new feelings.

Salzburg is full of sounds. Birds, different of languages, bells, bicycles, music, hills, horses...It brings the feeling of cosy and safe space.

Hug is a very familiar activity for the body for sharing gentleness and emotions of love.

It reveals the emotions of being in the Womb where you are in total secure.
Shape
as a streamlined figure was chosen as the shape of the sound object, which is comfortable to hold and which is commensurate with the dimensions of the body.
Acoustic
Since this is a sound object, space is needed for sound
Softeness
For pleasant touch
Embryon and sound
There is a sound of the city inside
Feel
Feelings are difficult to convey in words, but that was the point of the project - to convey the feeling of the city without words.
Dipper
When tactility, familiar intimate form of action and sound are combined, a miracle of the birth of feeling occurs.
Safety and love
it's like being inside and out at the same time.

Introduction to the project

In InsideOut Salzburg, artist Ekaterina Smirnova explores the city of Salzburg through the lens of personal sensations and emotions. Using 3D scanning technology, she creates models of key city objects, allowing viewers to perceive the city not only visually, but also tactilely, through sound and form.

Technology and approach

Using photogrammetry, Catherine recreates architectural details and cityscapes, offering a multi-faceted view of Salzburg. The installation includes physical objects that can be hugged and touched, enhancing the emotional experience and creating a sense of safety and cosiness.

Emotional interaction

The project endeavours to convey the feelings and experiences of being in Salzburg through the use of sound and form. Visitors can ‘embrace’ the city by interacting with the installation, which creates a deep connection between the viewer and the city, allowing them to feel its atmosphere on an intuitive level.

‘InsideOut Salzburg’ offers a unique experience of experiencing the urban environment by combining technology and art to convey the emotions and sensations of a place. The project emphasises the importance of tactile and emotional interaction with the surrounding world, pushing the boundaries of the traditional perception of the city.
